Why Did Christ Have To Die?

This time of year many think about the gospel. (Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Christ) I am so thankful for that, because that is the life altering event that should shape our perspective on life.

Why Did Christ Have To Die?

Our sins have separated us from God (Ezek. 18:20; Isa. 59:1-2; Rom. 3:23), and the punishment for sin is death (Rom. 6:23).

In order for sins to be removed, blood had to be shed (Heb. 9:22). In the Old Testament instead of man dying, God allowed an animal to die (Heb. 10:4). Think of all the lambs slain from the days of Abel till Christ. On a normal Passover day in the first century over 250,000 lambs would be slain.

Picture the scene as John the Baptist sees Jesus walking toward him, and hear John say, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29). How fitting that the Lamb of God be born in a stable (Luke 2:1-7)! It is interesting that His first visitors were shepherds (Luke 2:8-20).

"But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone." (Heb. 2:9).

Who Is The Author of This Communication?

From God?

God Communicates to Us In Different Ways:
God gave the Bible for instruction. 2 Timothy 3:16
God gave teachers of the Bible for instruction. Romans 10:14; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 1 Corinthians 2:13
God is with us in life to teach us. Proverbs 20:30; Psalm 119:67, 71-72

How To Test A Teaching
Does it agree with the Bible? Luke 21:33
Does it make me more like Christ? Philippians 2:5
Do I sense God’s peace about it? 1 Corinthians 14:33

Blessings of Hearing God’s Voice
It assures me that I’m God’s. John 10:14, 16
It protects me from mistakes. Job 33:17-18
It is the secret to a productive life. John 15:5

As it is said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”  Hebrews 3:15


Reflect On This Thought:
To be brought within the zone of God’s voice is to be profoundly altered.

THE WORLD WE LIVE IN

    If we could shrink the Earth's population to a village of 100 people, it would look like this: There would be 57 Asians, 21 Europeans, 14 North and South Americans and 8 Africans.
    * 70 would be nonwhite.
    * 70 would be non-Christian.
    * 50% of the wealth would be in the hands of 6 people.
    * All 6 people would be U.S. citizens.
    * 70 would be unable to read.
    * 50 would suffer malnutrition.
    * 80 would have substandard housing.
    * Only 1 would be college educated.

WHAT IT TAKES TO DO CHRIST’S MISSION

A person with Christ's mission needs:
the wisdom of an owl,
the tenacity of a bulldog,
the daring of a lion,
the patience of a donkey,
the versatility of a chameleon,
the vision of an eagle,
the melody of the nightingale,
the meekness of a lamb,
the tack of a politician,
the hide of a rhinoceros,
the disposition of an angel,
the resignation of an incurable,
the faithfulness of a prophet,
the tenderness of a shepherd,
the fervency of an evangelist,
the devotion of a mother,
the sacrifice of a martyr,
and the loyalty of an apostle.

But, missionaries are not born, they are and made by calling and discipleship.

Missionaries and messengers are made out of the ordinary run of individuals. The basic qualification is not intellectualism, but a yielded spirit, a devotion to the will of God, and a deep sense of call.
